Where to find gorillas in Rwanda

Rwanda is renowned for its conservation efforts, particularly in protecting endangered species like the mountain gorillas. To find gorillas in Rwanda, your best bet is to visit Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwest part of the country. This park is part of the larger Virunga Massif, which spans Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In Volcanoes National Park, tourists can embark on guided gorilla trekking expeditions led by experienced trackers and guides. These treks take visitors into the dense forests where the gorillas reside. It's a thrilling and immersive experience to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

To ensure the safety and well-being of the gorillas, the number of visitors allowed each day is limited, and permits are required for gorilla trekking. It's advisable to book permits well in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons, as they can sell out quickly.

Aside from gorilla trekking, Volcanoes National Park offers other activities such as golden monkey tracking, bird watching, and hiking to see the park's stunning scenery and diverse wildlife.
